Alternative UK | facing the future creatively

by | Mar 9, 2017

The Alternative UK is a new political platform based in the United Kingdom and is inspired and associated with the Danish Green party Alternativet.

Through curation, editorial, public events, commissioning and research, the platform aims “to transform the language and practice of politics” in the UK. With a focus on “engagement instead of elections, on values over ideology, on futures that include, not exclude”, the platform aims to engage citizens and organisations in a new political conversation, “one that reflects society as it is lived and felt by the 98%.”

With three elements of the human condition in mind – the person, the community and the planet (“I, We and World”) – the Alternative UK is checking its plans and actions against six values: empathy, generosity, openness, courage, humility and humour. “Politics needs to face the future creatively”, co-initiator Indra Adnan writes, because “behind our democratic deficit lies an imagination deficit.”
