The ISO 26000 international guidance standard on social responsibility: implications for public policy and transnational democracy

Halina Ward takes a critical look at ISO 26000, an international standard that aims to encourage organisations to be socially-responsible. She assesses the standard against democracy and sustainable development, making recommendations so that it could better enhance global governance and sustainable development. The ISO 26000, introduced in 2009, offers guidance across areas including human rights, labour, environment, consumer protection, fair operating practices and community development.
