KNOCA | The Knowledge Network on Climate Assemblies

by | Jan 10, 2022

The Knowledge Network on Climate Assemblies (KNOCA), launched in June 2021, is a new European network founded by the European Climate Foundation. The aim of KNOCA is to bring together academics, policy makers, activists and anyone interested to answer the question of “How can citizens’ assemblies contribute to climate action?”.

KNOCA holds learning calls, publishes briefing papers and conducts knowledge development projects on how to design and implement Climate Assemblies to influence climate action and policy. By drawing on existing experiences and models, and researching innovative practices,  KNOCA offers evidence-based advice that can be fed into countries and authorities who wish to conduct a Climate Assembly.

By balancing “academic quality, practical application, impact and accessibility” KNOCA aims to amplify the ability of everyday people to engage in climate transitions. Current areas of focus include the framing of Climate Assemblies, their integration into the political system, their legacy and impact and their legitimacy and resonance. By mapping and cultivating the evolving expertise on Climate Assemblies and deliberative processes, KNOCA is an open-source repository of collective intelligence accessible.
